BREAKING: Phoenix Police Arrest Man Who Threatened To Shoot Up LGBTQ+ Bar

An email sent by a community response officer within the Phoenix Police Department to leaders within the city’s LGBTQ+ community said that Phoenix Police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after allegedly threatening to shoot up an LGBTQ+ bar to "send a political message."

"A crisis dispatcher called 911 because a caller indicated he was upset by recent political events and was planning to shoot up a nearby LGBTQ bar," the email from Det. Trey Sueing said. The email was posted on Instagram by a member of the Phoenix Police Department's LGBTQ+ Community Advisory Group.

LOOKOUT has contacted Sueing as well as Phoenix PD's media office to get more information on the arrest and the alleged perpetrator.

According to the email, officers responded at 3:38 p.m. to the area of North 7th Avenue and West Earll Drive in the Melrose district — Phoenix's de facto Gayborhood — after a crisis dispatcher reported the threat. Police made contact with the man inside his apartment, where he admitted to making the threat but said he didn’t currently have a firearm. Though, he added, it "would be easy for him to obtain one," the email said.

The department’s Bias Crimes Unit determined the suspect should be detained. Patrol officers de-escalated the situation and arrested him without incident. He was booked on multiple felony charges, according to the email.

Police have not yet released the man’s identity or the name of the bar he allegedly threatened.
